The primary goals of AHDRO are for the health, safety, and well-being of the dogs in our program. The background information provided during the adoption process will be used to help match you with your new family member. AHDRO wants to ensure a forever home! As such, this page contains important information for potential adopters. We encourage you to read this page in entirety.
Each rescue has different requirements. The first step in the AHDRO adoption process is to read our Adoption Requirements located at the bottom of this page. If you meet these requirements and agree to them, the second step is to fill out our online application.
The adoption team will review and acknowledge your application this includes contacting your veterinarian to verify that your pets are up to date on vaccinations, heartworm testing, currently on heartworm prevention, and show a history of wellness care, if all goes well the third step is that a telephone interview will be scheduled if all goes well, the fourth step is that a home visit will be set up.
Once approved to adopt, you will be put in touch with the dog’s foster family and a meeting can be set up with the dog at its foster home. We require adopters to travel to where the dog is fostered and most comfortable so you can evaluate and visit with the dog to see if it is a good match for you and your family. If you choose to adopt at this time, you will sign the adoption paperwork, pay the adoption fee and take your new dog home.

Adoption Fees
Adoption fees range from $250 – $500 depending upon the age and breed of the dog. Fees are due at the time of adoption.
Almost Home Dog Rescue of Ohio has no paid employees or overhead. 100% of the adoption fees go to the care of the dogs.
This enables AHDRO to recover some of the associated costs with rescue, yet the care and resources invested far outweigh the fees.

Use experienced volunteers in every area of their rescue
Are GuideStar endorsed nonprofit organizations (our full name is Almost Home Dog Rescue of Ohio).
Perform a thorough adoption process inclusive of veterinary references and home visits.
Provide veterinary care, spay/ neuter prior to placement and disclose medical issues or known behavioral problem.
Dogs are clean, well-nourished, and housed indoors.
Open door policy for return, if necessary.
